Intraoral image
For an intraoral image a small sensor is placed in the mouth, right next to the teeth that need to be seen. The image shows individual teeth with their roots and the surrounding bone.
An intraoral image is also part of the comprehensive initial examination.
Panoramic OPG image
An OPG image is extraoral: the sensor stays outside the mouth and the rotating part of the unit turns around your head. A single image shows the whole dentition and both jaws.
OPG stands for orthopantomogram.
3D image
A 3D image is extraoral too. It shows the teeth and the bone in space, so the width and shape of the bone can be seen as well. It is used, for example, when planning implants.
Which image you need
Which image is right for you is decided by the dentist at the examination.
What it costs
An intraoral image costs 15 €, a panoramic OPG image 25 € and a 3D image 70 €.
You will find the prices of other examinations on the Examinations and preventive dentistry page.
